Inpatient Rehabilitation

Recovery through rehabilitation

For more than 12 years, Genesys Inpatient Rehabilitation Center has been helping people rebuild their lives by providing comprehensive rehab services based on evidenced based therapeutic interventions and excellent, personalized medical rehab care. We immediately focus on helping you resume a productive life by becoming as independent as possible. Our staff is dedicated to teaching and supporting you and your family every step of the way.

What will I do in rehabilitation?

What you do in rehabilitation depends on what you need to become successful upon discharge. You may work to improve your independence in many areas. These may include:

  • Self-care skills such as eating, grooming, bathing, dressing and basic household activities
  • Mobility skills such as transferring, walking or self-propelling a wheelchair
  • Communication skills in speech and language
  • Cognitive skills such as memory or problem-solving
  • Social skills for interacting with other people
  • Monitoring/managing your medication condition, i.e., diabetes, etc.

Family participation

The Rehabilitation Program encourages and expects family involvement in rehabilitation. In the early phases of care, the rehabilitation team develops a treatment plan with the patient and his/her family. An admission conference is scheduled within the first few days of the rehab stay for both the patient and family.

Our first steps in evaluating each patient are to establish concrete goals, unique to each patient, and aim for an appropriate date to return home. We add to the rehab process each day, incorporating roles of family members, home modification needs, and education. The Genesys Rehab Team teach the family how to assist with specific therapeutic activities. In this ongoing process, family members develop skills to help during hospital treatment and after discharge.

What is a rehabilitation program?

Under your doctor's direction, rehabilitation specialists come together to provide a treatment program specifically suited to your needs. Physicians who specialize in rehabilitation are called physiatrists. The number of services you receive will depend on your needs.

The Rehabilitation Care Coordinator will discuss with you and your family your disability, your treatment goals, and your discharge plans.
