Myofascial Pain

Conditions & Symptoms

Myofascial pain syndrome is a condition characterized by a chronic dull achy muscle pain of uncertain cause. Myofascial pain may be associated with trauma or poor posture.

Patients complain of pain involving different parts of their body including the neck and shoulder girdles and often report difficulty with their mood and not feeling restored from sleep.

Myofascial pain syndrome can cause weakness, fatigue and restriction of motion. Myofascial pain can be felt as numbness, burning, tingling and/or aching. The pain typically varies with physical activity, change in weather, quality of sleep and emotional stress. Myofascial pain may also present as referred pain caused by trigger points or hard nodules in muscle tissue.
